You know what the better explanation is? Because she probably hired a lawyer, and it was a first offense. You'd be amazed at how many people with lawyers get off of a first offense with just probation and community service. It's not rocket science.
This.
Again and again the sheer lack of knowledge of how the criminal justice system works thwarts any meaningful discussion on these issues.
Sentencing has so many factors involved. ONE of which may very well be the racial biases of prosecutors, juries and judges (more on that below), but more importantly: Nature of crime, criminal history, victim profile, violent vs. non-violent, and various other aggravating and mitigating circumstances. To remove bias, there is often a "score card" used by the judge and the lawyers to suggest and arrive at appropriate sentencing.
Let's also realize that in terms of "where there actually is a diverse workforce," it is often in the government side of the criminal justice system - the asst. state attorneys and public defenders are chock full of minorities making these deals, deciding what to charge people with, and how much time to ask for.
Again folks: Black judges, black lawyers, etc. are intimately involved in the criminal justice system these days. In some places more than others. In many places that have been black for a very long time (i.e., not Ferguson), the entire political structure from mayor to police chief and force can essentially be "all black." See: Miami Gardens, home to some of the highest per capita "stop and frisk" and harassment of black residents incidents in the country.
We probably shouldn't expect reporters to care, let alone social media hacktivists to know. No, that would be too much work, and honestly, why bother to try to get to the true root of a problem, when everyone can rally behind the lazy rationale of racism.
I have to say it's very disturbing how the news people are trying this person based on something his mother did. So now the sins of the mother can be visited on the son? The media is so sensationalized these days.

Sharpton Has Accused Police Of Smear Campaign Of Brown
I wasn't aware that one could enter a plea deal (and completely evade any jail time), in cases where the damages include 10s of thousands of dollars.
If Michael Brown had been arrested and lived, do you think the court would have granted him a plea deal of community service, for the 4 cigars that he stole from the store? Or would he receive jail time?
I absolutely believe Brown would have been granted a plea deal for that crime, unless he had prior offenses or was already on probation. I would think we would have already heard about that though since only offenses committed as an adult would count, and he was only 18.
My opinion is that it was unnecessary to dig up and share this information.
This ^^^ End of thread.
Probably the same kind of person who would scream bloody murder if someone posted about Obama's
illegal aunt or illegal uncle living in our country.
Get a grip.
I don't believe Wilson's mother was a first time offender given the wording of the bolded sentence from the Times article:
Quote:
As a teenager, Darren Wilson lived in St. Peters, Mo., a mostly white city of 54,000 about 20 miles west of Ferguson, where his environment was chaotic. He was the eldest of three children of Tonya Dee Durso, who, records show, carried out financial crimes, including against Sandra Lee Finney, who lived across the street and had believed they were friends.

Whether she was a first time offender or not, plea agreements are given to people with multiple offenses all the time no matter the ethnic make up of the criminal.

This topic is about Darren Wilson's mother, not President Obama's relatives.
He's Black, lived in the inner city, and wore his pants around around the bottom of his butt checks... What other proof do you need other than the strong arm robbery?
Yeah, you're right. Actually, the only evidence I needed was the bolded.

Again, thank you for the information, but I still believe there are instances of racial bias, with respect to arrests and sentencing.
