I've noticed that very few feminist websites or blogs I read mention an opinion either way about the death penalty. Which surprises me since a great number of the executions carried out are for men who kill women and children and the current wave of feminism is essentially a backlash against male crime.
I get the idea that most feminists like most American liberals are quiet advocates of the death penalty but would like to see it temporarily suspended due to it being unfairly applied (racism, etc). However once these issues are resolved I could see feminists advocating an expansion of the death penalty for rape and other violent crimes against women.
Do you self identify as a feminist or not and what's your take on the death penalty? And what do you think of gun ownership, would it protect women if they took up arms more often?

No it isn't. Issues of birth control, abortion, and equal pay have nothing to do with crime.

It would be very difficult to get the death penalty applied to "violent crimes against women". That would pretty much immediately cause lawsuits against it. If you are punished with one penalty for a crime against a man and a different penalty for a crime against a woman that would cause serious constitutional issues. We are supposed to all be equal under the law. Nobody is "worth more" as a victim than anybody else. It is the nature of the crime that determines the punishment, not the nature of the victim.

I am not a feminist and oppose the death penalty in all cases and under all circumstances. I believe it should be completely abolished.

Of course it would. That's not to say that people should necessarily carry guns around, because there are all sorts of related issues. But the basic issue of whether you are more or less protected, not considering the circumstances of the attack or the type of firearm or what weapon the attacker has or how much training the gun owner has, is not even a question. It's like saying if you're hit by a car are you more or less protected if you're a pedestrian or if you're also in a car. Without considering the specifics of the accident, the answer in general terms is always going to be that you are more protected if you are another driver protected by the car. Same thing with a weapon. If you are attacked you are better off having a weapon than not having a weapon in general terms.
I'm a (male) feminist and I went with opposing it as it's applied now. I oppose it in general, but I can't say there will never, ever be a circumstance where I think "yes, I can see the death penalty being justly applied".
"Two things we hate separately but would love to see tied to each other." ???
Lol!! That's what I'm thinking. I'm a feminist who opposes it as DNA has exonerated so many people and it does not deter crime. Where is the sense in that?
Also, as a fiscal moderate, I just don't understand people (mostly Conservatives) who are PRO death penalty and yet want lower taxes. For those who care about facts, please look up how much MORE money it costs to prosecute DR cases.

You can't make a claim like that without first proving it.
