Smart move on their part, still some hard feelings over there.

The Germans lost the war. Their nation was dismembered and millions were displaced. You really think that it's up to the German people as to what kind of country they get to have? Many of their laws in effect today are holdovers from laws imposed on them by the Allied powers. There isn't even true freedom of speech there.

That is one difference between Russia and Germany. One that comes out in Germany's favor, as far as I'm concerned.

Well, yes.

Not as such, no. The Allies charged the local German state governors (premiers, if you will) to draft a constitution based on the Weimar Republic one. The constitutional assembly, when convened, consisted of German citizens.

The penal code traces back to the 1871 Imperial German Penal Code.

<shrug> - if the Germans wanted to change their laws to allow pro-nazi agitation and holocaust denial, they could. They don't.

I.e, the Germans get to define what a German state is. And it's one where Nazism isn't welcome. Perhaps a clumsy overreaction as seen with 2014 eyes, but it's their country.

That was part of the war.
Nazi behavior in occupied counties varied a lot from country to country and could almost fill an entire thread. The memorial we're talking about is for German victims.

If you remember the Muslims countries supported the Nazi's by and large; then nothing. As far as honoring their soldiers ;most had nothing to do with crimes and fought for their country like most thru history.I fact the terms of peace in WWI set the stage for Hitler and Naz'si success in elections.

Maybe the US and Brits should put up a memorial to the hundred thousand innocent people who were burned alive during the Dresden bombing. Dresden, absolutely no military value.

I wouldn't cry over Dresden considering what the nazis did to not one but many European cities.
