He rejected the plea deal for one felony conviction with no admission of corruption and his wife would have been exonerated.

Tough to deal with that looking back on that decision.

I'd wager "Governor Vaginal Probe McDonnell" had few admirers on the left. Perhaps while serving his prison sentence, the ex-governor will get to experience firsthand the degradation of being forced to undergo an invasive body probe. Sometimes karma has a wicked sense of irony.

Taking the plea would have made him a convicted felon, thus tanking his shot at the White House in 2016. Instead he opted for the "Crazy Wife" defense and threw Maureen under the bus in a futile attempt to save himself. What a stand up guy.

This was purely political; the indictment was conveniently just in time for our statewide elections. The Dept. of Injustice was sitting on this for over two years.

There was no quid pro quo and the judge denied every motion the defense put forth.

Sham trial from a sham government.

Why accept a plea deal when you're innocent?

The jury only deliberated for 17 hours. Given the 90 pages of instructions from the judge they had to go through before they could even begin to deliberate, that's a pretty fast return of a verdict.

As one juror, Kathleen L. Carmody, who was a supporter of the governor when he ran for office, said, they had no choice but to convict because "the facts spoke for themselves." Fellow juror Robin Trujillo added, "It wasn't easy at all, but we have to follow the law, and the law and the facts fit together."

Seems only you and the ex-governor believe he was innocent.

You do realize that the timing was to spare the state from having a sitting governor on trial, right?

Which motion did the judge wrongfully deny?

What makes the trial a sham? He was obviously guilty, with so much damning photographic evidence you'd think he was proud of his corruption.

And let's not forget his ripped-from-the-movies defense where he pretended it was all his wife and they had a terrible marriage. He clearly had no qualms about presenting a completely manufactured defense.

Spitzer was actually a pretty good DA but under the circumstances he got what he deserved. The corruption in NY State remains, no ethics and virtually no disclosure of private interests by legislature. Gov. Cuomo just killed off his own ethics commission when they got too close to his donors, if all we had to worry about was governors sleeping with prostitutes we would be in great shape.
