What seems so improbable to me is that as the former VA attorney general (his position prior to governor), I'd expect McDonald to know the statutes on accepting gifts inside and out. Further, I'd think that he'd recognize that the plea bargain he was offered was a lot less risky than facing a jury. And then, his legal team's strategy of throwing the wife under the bus seems to be a guaranteed loser, particular with women on the jury.

I was thinking about also. I came to the conclusion that it must be EGO and a sense of special privilege and entitlement. I would like to see some psychological evaluation studies completed on convicted corrupt officials. I had to add the word convicted to the last sentence to narrow down the candidates.
The Justice Department hailed the decision. I can't even fathom the uproar if McDonnell and his wife were black.
Was there an uproar when Jesse Jackson, Jr. and his wife were convicted of corruption?
