This is the most absurd thing I've ever heard. No, the city is not proving the free pot with taxpayer money, which would be bad enough. Instead, marijuana dispensaries will be required to provide it directly.

WHAT disgusting hippies!

They want to give PRESCRIBED MEDICINE to people who might not otherwise be able to afford it.

So what? How is this affecting you?
I guess it's in a Conservative's nature to whine and complain about everything.
Their motto should be "A day without pi**ing and moaning is like a day without sunshine!"

They are taking the solid stand that MM is a medicine. Under that presumption they decided to do what they would with any other medicine.

It's an interesting take, and one that is sure to annoy those who don't believe pot does anything but get hippies high, but oh well. SOMEONE was bound to get to this point given the acceptance of MJ as a medicine, and nobody should be surprised it was Berkeley.

Let's see how it plays out, it may die on the vine or it may show benefits.

Instead the tax is forced onto other customers through higher prices or the city pass the dealers the value of the service they are providing with tax money.

And don't forget their TANF money is free to spend however they want.
Booze, pot and a little casino gambling with the leftover change buying lottery tickets

Life just got good for the poor !

If you are able to stumble into any Pot outlet and claim to have a headache ...... that good enough for a "prescription". IF Pot was strictly a Medical issue, then States like Colorado wouldn't open it up for everyone in the interest of getting TAX revenue (which is falling below rosy projections due to a Black Market).

Just when you think you have heard everything ..... California goes 'round the bend. FREE Pot for those who can't afford it. Everyone should have seen this coming.

Welcome to our Transformed America.

"Starting next summer, Berkeley residents who earn less than $32,000 per year (or $46,000 per family) and have a prescription for medical marijuana will be able to get it for free from one of the dispensaries operating within the city."

Free Marijuana For Low-Income Residents Under New Berkeley Law

I support the legalization of medical pot. But this is certainly insane. Government can mandate a private business must give away its inventory.

I don't recall free pot being in the bill of rights, but hey, you never really know...
