If you want to know what the mindset of the warrior cops is, this article gives some insight.

Urban Shield: after Ferguson, police and suppliers consider fate of military-grade tactical gear | World news | The Guardian

Quote:
Lenthe was one of several police officers and vendors who told the Guardian that a serious threat came from Iraq and Afghanistan military veterans returning home with post-traumatic stress disorder. “These are sophisticated people, guys coming back from combat who know how to use their weapons and are dealing with PTSD,” he said, despite the insistence of the Department of Veterans Affairs that the link between PTSD and violent crime is overblown to the point of distortion.
We are gearing up to fight our own veterans. Small towns think that they are going to be attacked by the terrorists from ISIS or Al_Queda.

They seem to believe that they are at risk from the Occupy movement as well.

We, the public, cannot allow this to continue. We are all at risk when our police go to war against civilians.

The fact that police have access to military grade weapons is horrifying on its own. They don't even need to be hostile for that to be a bad thing. Under what circumstance would a cop need a mine resistant truck, for example?

Besides, historically, police have been more than capable of violently apprehending unarmed civilians with just a handgun, a taser, and some pepper spray. I see no need for a 40mm grenade launcher or assault rifles.

There was a reason in the days past in the Republic we only had Peace officers, enforcers of peace and Common Law. Now, since the US bankruptcy, we have an infestation of police officers, policy enforcers, enforcing policy aka commercial or statutory law (where the term 'police state' comes from, commercial entity over run with policy).

A government agent acting as a policy enforcer should have nothing more than a nightstick and pepper spray strictly to defend himself. One acting as a peace officer I could understand having deadly weapons.

All part of the Plan, my friends. First we federalized charity. Then we federalized our schools. Now we are federalizing our police and our healthcare.

Anyone care to guess what's next?

The Constitution? Form a department to administer rights to those most deserving.

uhm the mine resistant trucks ...or.. MRAPS

PROTECT the occupants from IED's...like the pressurecooker mines the boston bombers used

mines are not just anitvehicular, but also anti-personnel ...like the claymore mine....quit thinking mines are only land mines in war like on tv

an IED is a mine

uhm the 40mm M203 grenade launcher has been used for decades...99% of all teargas (CS Gas) is launched from it...also used for flares, and colored concealment smoke grenades too

when the gangs are running around with flack jackets and uzis, yes you want you cops to be armed to handle that

Very few of the cities using these weapons are big cities with lots of gangs with uzis.

Police are cracking down on dissent. In 1999, massive protests rocked Seattle during the World Trade Organization meeting. The police cracked down hard on the demonstrators using paramilitary tactics. Police fired tear gas at protesters, causing all hell to break loose. Just as they did in Ferguson, the police are targeting peaceful protesters.

Why does Keene, NH with a population of 23,000 need an army instead of a police force. What makes these people think that small towns are targets for terrorists?

It is no mystery when the focus of attention and money is on war/violence that war/violence is what one gets.

The problem is that crime states usually create police states-the police come in and crime does go down, but now we have a crime state and a police state.
