You just don't understand the anger pent up inside of Ray from a lifetime of systemic racism & never having his voice heard. Janay understands it.

No, the left definitely have decided to inject their politics into sports. Face it, the left considers themselves intellectually elite to everyone else & believes it's their right/duty to help better other people for them. The idea of these violent, non-intellectual, cavemen bashing each others heads, not embracing homosexuality, not being PC, simply does not pass the smell test for them on many levels. Basically, they're pissed that the league is masculine & macho. Macho is a dirty word in the "we're all exactly the same" worldview. Professional, team sports are something women are obviously not equal to men at, so that sets the tone. Then we have the silly witch hunt started by Chris Kluwe, the ridiculous coverage of Michael Sam, the first flamboyantly gay football player, the insensitivity of the Redskins name, now we find the league not cracking down hard enough on a woman beater. There's really not much for the PC lefty crowd to support at all.

A couple of thoughts. This isn't about Ray Rice at all. The left has been gunning for the NFL for several years now and they think this is an opportunity to do as much damage as possible. We have an election coming up...as much as possible the Democrats will try to tie the GOP to the NFL as part of the tired war on women meme. And why not, several years ago the Sunlight Foundation found that NFL political donations favor the GOP No close call here: NFL's political donations tilt Republican - Sunlight Foundation Blog

And a question for the black community here on C-D. Are you beginning to catch just a hint of racism in the frenzied bashing of Ray Rice...because it sure feels like it to me.
Uh, perhaps because domestic abuse is horrible? Do you condone abusing a woman?

I still am failing to see how this is a left/right issue. It is a human issue. Rice is a bully who would hit a woman...left and right should all agree that that is not acceptable.

What he did is a crime and it was caught on tape. Its really not just about two people.

Once upon a time, society simply turned its back on famous people who did wrong. They lost their fame and that was the worst punishment of all.

Today, we're so "counter culture" that he has his fans who are just to BE counterculture, which is just as stupid as being PC.

Some people are simply incapable of not trying to make everything a political issue.

Of course we should all agree about that but unfortunately, there is a side of people who find it perfectly acceptable, feel sorry for the beaters & blame the victim saying they either initiated it or they're morons for staying. These people tend to be conservatives.

No. What "leftists" like me are tired of is big men beating a woman half their size unconscious (who clearly poses no meaningful physical risk to an NFL runningback) and getting away with it indefinitely, something that is clearly more palatable to conservatives like you. And we are tired of people like YOU willing to sweep it under the rug and treat it like it's no big deal.

It is a very sad commentary that in a 21st-century civilization, the NFL has to be dragged kicking and screaming to do something about a guy who publicly beats his partner unconscious. These are the kinds of men who are representing the NFL? What this shows is that when beloved sports and big money are involved, the NFL could not care less about ethics.

And what it also sadly shows is that with conservative males, not much has changed. Many on the right will say that they wouldn't personally beat up women like that and that it's bad, blah blah.. but they won't condemn the man who did it. They'll say that even though be beat his woman unconscious in a public elevator, it's a "private affair," and who are we to say...blah blah. They still yearn for the good old days when a man could punch around his woman at will, in public or private, and people didn't get all "wussy" and raise a big stink about it.

Well, those days are becoming a historical artifact...as is the entire quasi-civilized conservative social world view.

Guess what: if you don't stand against violent aggression perpetrated upon someone half the assailant's size, then you can twist however you want, but you are condoning and supporting it. It's that simple.
