Maher is generally anathema to me, but here he is so spot on that I want to bow down to him.
A local lib here (Seattle area) named Dan Savage took a similar tack in 2003, but backed off presumably under the pressure of political correctness. I wonder whether there will ever be an acceptance of the Maher formulation among Democrats. I don't think so. I think that PC will continue to hold sway on the left.

He's rude, crass, and offensive, but he is right about a lot of things, this included, and on 21st century right libertarianism as well. I wonder how many people, including you OP, know that Bill Maher is actually a Left Libertarian?
Opposition to Islam should NOT be a politically left verse right issue. All left winger and right wingers should unite against Islam because it is a serious threat to our way of life (as it has always been since the 6th Century). Another Bill (Bill Warner) discusses why we should put aside our political persuasions to unite against it.
Maher absolutely excoriates conservatives, they are such a "target rich environment" but they are also a protected class by the mainstream media (which is obviously in bed with the owners of the 6 major media conglomerates and have their lackeys all over the airwaves, constantly massaging the truth)
His show on HBO, Real Time is something I podcast, as I'm not about to pay for HBO to watch one show. It's a free podcast, his guests are conservatives and progressives, and he gives fair and equal time to his conservative guests, and much of the comedy is laugh out loud hilarious. But if conservative guests say really stupid things, he can call them out for it. And, surprisingly, he gets some pretty intelligent conservatives on there who don't.
Maybe it's because they are more prone to being accountable for what they say, I don't know.

Left libertarian is an oxymoron. It's like saying someone is a fascist-anarchist. Nonetheless, Maher is absolutely spot on in his analysis of Islam. He's quoting Ayaan Hirsi Ali--the friend of my friend is my friend.

This guy is a douche. I won't waste my bandwidth on listening to his retarded viewpoint.
