Taxpayers, workers hurt by cost-cutting labor violations

McClatchy did a huge investigative piece on the practice of misclassification--a way of getting around federal labor law by classifying employees as independent contractors. It turns out that the 2009 Obama stimulus (which like Obamacare was enacted without a single Republican vote) was rife with this practice. McClatchy refers to it with words like 'scam' and 'swindle.'

One obvious side effect of this was that money went into the pockets of cronies and insiders instead of workers who worked on stimulus-funded projects. So-called stimulus spending is supposed to get the economy going by creating consumer demand. I think the idea is flawed from the start, but if you're going to do it, at least get the money into the pockets of those who are going to spend it. That's not what the Obama administration did though, did they....??

Ain't capitalism grand? Another reason why workers should belong to a Union.

Buying votes with taxpayer money and social programs. It's a wonderful platform the Democrats adhere to.

How do you figure that the Obama 'stimulus' constitutes 'capitalism?'

The American stimulus was created, signed and enacted by George W. Bush in 2008. When President Obama came into office, it would have been silly to abruptly end the program.

As to no Republican votes, they were just playing politics because a few months earlier, they all supported it and voted for it.

I remember 2008. Look it up.

Seriously? On so many levels....

Bush did enact a "stimulus" in 2008, but it had nothing to do with the Obama 'stimulus' AKA 'American Recovery and Reinvestment Act' of 2009. The two had nothing to do with each other, other than sharing the word 'stimulus' and both enjoying the support of Nancy Pelosi. The Bush stimulus was to the tune of 150 billion, while the Obama stimulus was $787 billion. Both were moronic exercises, but the Obama stimulus was stupid on steroids.

Actualldy no, thats a bailout to stabilize the banks, of which the total was $300B to be spent, $150B by Bush and $150B by Obama..

You dont remember very well because after Obama entered office then then signed a $787B stimulus which just pumped welfare spending, claiming it was for roads and bridges but just pumped up government spending.

Then Bush passed a tax cut to stimulate and everyone with 1/2 a brain knows tax cuts arent spending..
