Quite frankly, I'd treat lightly in arming the rebels. I prefer Assad, horrible as he is, to an alternative and the odds that the country would tilt to a fundamentalist state.

matter which party they come from.

The sickest thing about this is how the so called leaders are attaching this to the budget bill and won't let this come to a vote on its own. It just gives them cover I mean who wants to be singled out by shutting down the gvt? If the plan works they can tell their constituents they whole heartily supported it. If it fails they can use the excuse they had to weigh the whole bill and thought it was in the best interest of the country to avoid another shut down. I would never cast a vote for a leader that voted yes on this bill.

Arming Syrian rebels is just going to increase the bloodshed of civilians and destabilize the area even further. They may even end up aiding ISIS. So Manchin at least deserves credit for saying the obvious. Maybe one person in DC isn't brain dead after all.
Didn't we tell these losers to stay out of it before? They listened but their short term memory must be shot.

From the article:
While lawmakers are expected to put off until after the November election a vote on direct U.S. military action in Syria............

One more thing (in addition to the illegals) lawmakers want to kick down the road until after the election.

The sad thing is, by and large both sides support it. They just don't want to admit it before the elections. Right now, war is the only thing the two major parties can agree on.

Well that was kind of the plan. We (The West, Israel, our Gulf Sunni "Allies" etc...) want an unstable and war torn Syria. That's a Syria that cannot threaten Israel and cannot be an ally to an aspirational Shia Iran. It also isolates one of Russia's lone allies in the region. What we didn't bet on was the rebels being so well organized and the most radical of them going into Iraq to expand their caliphate. The Sauds, Qataris and such were a-okay with the anti-royal wahhabist killing Shias and one another in Syria, but now that it looks like their influence is spreading.... Well, time to act.

I agree with Manchin that arming the rebel groups is going to come back to bite us. Yes, Assad is a monster should go, but not at the hands of those who are just as bad if not worse. At least he is holding onto power for power's sake, and not for power and religion.

It's absolutely crazy that nothing was learned from the Iraq debacle.

In regards to his views on this topic, from what I've just read, I agree with this Democrat.
