Funny, I never applied for food stamps or welfare when I made minimum wage.
By your theory, I should have died destitute and starving in the streets a long time ago.

I disagree. An employer has a job opening of which he has already calculated what he can afford to pay for the work required based on expected return. Risk / reward. An employee establishes the value of his labor by accepting or rejecting the terms of payment.
In any geographic location, a given position will have a certain wage scale which is largely determined by market forces.
My only argument is for minimum wage to be the minimum amount needed for subsistence without taxpayer subsidy. We have economists to figure out the numbers as to what it would be.
My gut feeling as of now leans to $12-$14 / hour or so currently, but like I said an economist could figure that out better than me.
There is no "taxpayer subsidy." That is term that is made-up by liberals as a means of legitimizing their argument.
Using their "logic," one could argue that the taxpayers subsidize just about anything.
Just happened. A girl I know was complaining about being 6 mo's late on her credit card bills and they are harassing her. She also got a notice that they are going to shut off her water. I needed some work done so I hired her. When I paid her she said, she was going pay the water bill but then she said she was gong to get these new curtains she's been wanting. Yea, what is it? $30 wasted on late fee's yet she is going shopping.
Conservatives are also naive enough to believe business will not take advantage of them so there is no need for any labor laws it seems.
Liberals are just arrogant, who believe THEY are smart enough to deserve to control all those people who they are too stupid to control themselves.
