It's sad that blacks are not hired as much even with the same credentials. Did they control for things like criminal background and credit score? One other possibility is that employers might think the applicant only got into that good school due to affirmative action. That's one reason I think affirmative action actually hurts blacks in the long run.
That's why I asked if they took other things into consideration, or if they just looked at the college and the degree.
Good luck finding that answer, since it would most likely annihilate this particular narrative. I've been asking this same question about statistical inputs in every thread like this, and nobody has answered so far.
You're simply supposed to assume that every input factor is perfectly equal except race, which then allows for racism to be the only possible explanation of the differences in output. The entire racial grievance industry depends on some degree of that same assumption, except in areas where more black people excel than anyone else, and then you must disregard the assumption and understand how a meritocracy works.
The problem is, everyone's just looking at this from the basis of Degrees. A Bachelor's degree isn't worth much more than a high school diploma these days, especially if it's from a lower-echelon institution.
You need more than just a degree on your resume. Work experience, internships, volunteerism, awards, language skills etc. give applicants a leg up in the hiring process. If you have the attitude of "well I have a degree so I should automatically be able to find a job" you're deluding yourself. It doesn't work like that anymore.

I have worked numerous jobs since 1987. Different industries (Law, Consulting, Big Pharma) in different States (New York, DC, Texas).
I cannot think of a workplace that did not have plenty of African-Americans at all levels. Attorneys, accountants, sales people, financial analysts, secretaries, managers, computer people, mail room people, technical writers, etc.
Some "historically black colleges" are a joke. When I first set up shop in Louisiana, we hired a person from Southern University. Graduated with a 3.8 in our field.
I was shocked and dismayed that this person was borderline illiterate and lacked the benefit of ever being challenged. No critical thinking skills what-so-ever. My partner really wanted to hire a minority.
What I didn't know is that some of these colleges are just diploma mills, sucking in federal grants and student loans. I know know that many of my colleagues have experienced this as well. Engineering friend got burned by several HBCU grads and their firm has an unofficial policy to never have one be resposible for anything having to do with bridges. From then on we started giving problem solving tests to applicants.
Having said that, we have a black girl who graduated from a major university and she is a great asset to have.
