What is an American Navy Sailor's role during wartime?
Specifically now?

Do they hit the front lines?
Do they use firearms to eliminate targets?

Sailors learn Army basics to prep for downrange deployment Sailors learn Army basics to prep for downrange deployment.
Timm Duckworth / U.S. Navy
Lt. Cmdr. Gordon Jones,
right, leads Naval Reservists
and active-duty personnel in
an urban warfare-training scenario
during an Individual Augmentee
Training Course. The Navy now has
a cohesive program to train sailors
to fight like soldiers before deploying
to combat zones.

Is this a serious question or what ????
1) Every Marine Combat unit has a USN Corpmen attached to it. ( And they do carry weapons been ther seen that)
2) USN Aviation units are flying missions in the War zone at this minute in AC that are fully armed. (FYI The flight deck of a AC carrier is 1 of the most dangerous place to work in the world)
3) Naval personal along with the US Coast Gaurd are at this minute provideing ARMED security for numerous coastal installations in Iraq, UAE, Kuwait as well as other palces in and out of the WAR zone.
This is just the short list!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Frankly I can't believe someone would even ask this question. Are the majority of Americans that uniformed or that disinterested of what we ask thousands of kids to for us??????

"Navy" includes SEALs and Naval Special Warfare Units which are always involved in Special Ops. As the poster above mentions, there is some increasing cross-training of Navy and Air Force personnel to try to lessen the burden on the Army and Marines. Also Navy corpsmen and the engineering corps (SEABEEs) often are sent to areas of conflict to assist in their areas of expertise.
