It may be a regional / area thing, but why are public schools closed on Jewish holidays? What happened to separation of religion and state?
I find it ridiculous and offensive when public schools observe Jewish main holidays. There are tons of different religions and religious holidays; we cannot just keep closing schools down. Rosh Hashanah and Yom Kippur are not federal or state holidays either. Let those few Jewish kids and teachers take off with no testing, but do not shut down the entire school!
What sense does it make to have school when a substantial number of students won't be there?
Which public school districts are closed on Rosh Hashanah and Yom Kippur,
Most if not all school districts here are closed, Long Island does have a large Jewish population.
