I really don't understand this compulsion some liberals have for trying to claim they are reformed conservatives. Every few months this forum gets one. Some joker bemoaning the GOP's fall from grace, followed by making such blatantly partisan progressive remarks that it completely blows apart any credibility for them actually being/leaning conservative.

It's like those idiot liberals who go to Tea Party rallies and hold up racist signs. They're trying to prove how racist the Tea Party is completely oblivious to the irony of the fact that the only ones there acting racist are themselves.
The reason these conservative posers do it is because they think it somehow gives them credibility when they barf up every left wing talking point on the planet. It doesn't.

clearly the democrat party is a friend to the lower and middle class. obama has an IQ of over 6, and I take him very seriously. the way the democrat party has allowed mexicans to come to this country and drive down wages for their own political gain is admirable. I love the democrat party and their regressive ideas.

The GOP started downhill with the anointment of Reagan. I was a Repub and voted for him his 1st term, then saw the mistake that he was, and became an Independent Centrist.

I'll say the Earned income tax credit that was articulated by Milton Friedman and signed into law by Gerald Ford and expanded by Reagan has been an unmitigated success.

I'd say the fight against acid rain using cap and trade has been extremely successful.

I'd even say that Massachusetts expanding health care coverage under Mitt Rmoney was extremely successful.

Notice that all three mitt Rmoney styled health care reform, the earned income tax credit and the whole idea of cap and trade are in many conservative circles no longer viewed as conservative ideas. It is a testament to the radical extremist nature of conservatives.

I'd say in the last 15years, outside of the expansion of health care in Massachusetts the conservative record of policy accomplishment is non existent.

Yeah this is it. While I have a love-hate relationship with the GOP, I've always said that the GOP serves as a brake to stop us from going over the socialist cliff.

Seriously? I never thought a question asking about the accomplishments of Republicans would lead to such vitriol! Why are you reacting with anger instead of lists of accomplishments? This is a post where the Conservatives can boast, instead you are outraged that this question is asked.

Oh, please! You were never a Republican then. I suppose you thought Carter was great?

What is a "centrist," anyway? Someone who doesn't know which way to go? Someone who doesn't know Left from Right?

Me too. The biggest hit that Reagan did to our country was demonizing college students and decreasing student aid.

Quote:
When Reagan assumed office, he immediately set about doing exactly what he had promised. He cut state funding for higher education, laid the foundations for a shift to a tuition-based funding model, and called in the National Guard to crush student protest, which it did with unprecedented severity. But he was only able to do this because he had already successfully shifted the political debate over the meaning and purpose of public higher education in America. The first “bums” he threw off welfare were California university students.

No federal program suffered deeper cuts than student aid. Spending on higher education was slashed by some 25 percent between 1980 and 1985.
