KITCHENER — Calling her crime "one spectacular fall from grace," a judge sentenced a former high school teacher Friday to 13 months in jail for having sex with one of her students.
Jacqueline Lavigne – who continues to deny the encounter and is appealing her conviction – was also placed on probation for two years and will almost certainly be stripped of her teaching licence.
"Ms. Lavigne has paid a significant price for her lapse into lust and her total breach of the trust placed in her by her students, their parents and her employer," said Justice Patrick Flynn. "She has thrown away her career.
"Teachers just can't behave like this. There is no room for error – none. It won't be tolerated by the public at all."
Lavigne, 34, was found guilty of having oral sex and intercourse with a drunken 17-year-old after inviting him to her Kitchener home while her husband was out on a Saturday night in the fall of 2011.

Might be a case where the student's parents did not talk to him about the birds and the bees. So the teacher wanted to make sure that he got hands on experience in the comfort of her home. As for the husband, the teacher now knows that she can get some on the side because hubby doesn't care.
