No,that's not the translation..the analogy was if you deal with either extreme as the supreme front runner then the result is you are screwed..I don't think anyone but the extremists want that...and btw, trucks are better

No.

I have to say, on this thread there seems to be a total lack of understanding of how the right/left dynamic actually works.

I would call into question whether or not a left-wing government could even be authoritarian or repressive, given that socialists and communists regard equality, NOT military or state privilege, as being of the utmost importance.

Who Rules America: The Left and the Right in Thinking, Personality, and Politics

I'm pretty sure most of you are imagining State Capitalist societies like USSR, and not even their reality but the images of terror and suffering conjured up by US cold war propaganda.

The easiest way for governments to control people is by telling them that they are free, or that their party represents freedom or 'the people' or some ideology (like socialism) that is supposed to lead to a better society. It doesn't mean that they actually ARE a democracy, or socialist, or even that they have any coherent ideology at all except serving themselves.

On the other hand, I'm pretty sure that serving yourself first and everyone else second is what being a right-winger is all about. They reason it to themselves as being 'God's will' or 'how it is' or 'their reward for all their hard work'.

IMO, Dwight David Eisenhower (remember him?) was absolutely correct!
IIRC, he said something like "The middle of the road is the best place to be. The extreme LEFT AND the extreme RIGHT are both in the gutter!"
We see irrefutable proof of that day in and day out, in our government AND on these forums!

The middle of the road can easily be no man's land.

"You're either with us, or you're a terrorist."

I think Ron Paul was a middle of the road constitutionalist.

I disagree. Extremists do not deprive themselves of useful tools, left or right.

The extreme right would use government to push the right agenda... refer to the Pinochet regime and it's battle against socialists in Chile.

The extreme left would use government to push the left agenda... refer to the marxist Mao regime in China.

That's not even a little bit true.

The end result of extreme left is communism. The end result of extreme right is fascism. Either might exploit "nationalism" as a means to their end.

At least that's the way I understand it.

Am I wrong?

No. Extreme left is anarchistic communism. Most times that was attempted it was realized it wasn't going to work so things slides into dictatorship. Extreme right is fascism.
