Well, there is that...ours have no problem facing down mean cattle or mules and a mule will kill most dogs within about 3 heartbeats

This is not the first time a dog owner has been sentenced. Back in the 90's, a man and wife couple were also sentenced to life after their pair of Presa Canarios, a Spanish breed that looks like a Pit Bull on steroids, were let loose to roam the halls of an apartment building and mauled a neighbor to death outside their doorway.

The couple had been warned several times to keep their dogs under control, but they claimed the dogs were uncontrollable. Given the breed's size and strength, that was probably the truth.

It was a very weird story; the couple got the dogs from an ex-convict who was keeping them for a man who was in prison serving a very long term. The imprisoned dog owner wooed the wife, who was a psychologist or something and worked in the prison, and convinced her to fetch the dogs and take them home. They all- husband, wife, and felon, planned to live as a threesome with the dogs after the convict was released.

All ended up in prison and the dogs were put down. It was a big news story back in the day. As i recall, this case was the one that established the precedent that put the recent pit bull owner behind bars.

Dog owner sentenced to prison in fatal mauling
THIS I agree with. If we started to hold the owners of any type of dog responsible for their complete and utter lack of training for their dog, then maybe we can have less incidents like this.

It is about time that we hold the PEOPLE accountable instead of blaming everything on the dog.

Most bear dogs get killed by the bear falling on them from a tree.

Me too. I just wish the punishment were more severe. A woman was mauled and lost her life.
Dogs are the owner's responsibility. If you want to own a dog like this, which is capable of this level of violence, ANY DOG, not just a pit bull, than you should be prepared to pay the consequences.
