You can refuse service to whom ever you choose... for whatever reason you choose.
If I don't want to sell you my widget - it's not for sale... to you.
Doing so, in my opinion, limits my ability to render service to you - but that's my choice -
If I owned such a t-shirt shop, and someone came to me and wanted me to print something on that shirt that I took offense to, they'll have to get that printing done somewhere else. It's my choice, and not the governments. If I were in this position and the 'judge' ordered me to take that class, I would not attend and would take to whatever level necessary to not be force fed someone else's 'opinion' on 'my' views.
But it's not opinion any more. It's the law and it's on their side.
Discrimination. That one word and they have the courts behind them.
How about the KKK, Nazi groups, Porn websites, Child Molesters or other groups you find you don't want to do business with ?
Here's the thing....are people BORN being in the KKK, Nazis and child molesters? Not so much.
Discriminating against gays is like discriminating against someone for having blue eyes or being short.

A Black owned tshirt shop has the same obligation to print "The KKK shall rise to power again" shirts.
They can't say no.

Sure they can say "No" but a judge will side with them.
"The KKK shall rise again" is not hate speech and the Black owner is discriminating based on his opinions and beliefs.
You can't cherry pick here.
The KKK is not protected from discrimination. They are allowed to exist, march, and do whatever it is they do. BUT, the government or your local municipality will not protect them in your example. Being gay is not something that is taught. Being full of hatred is taught. BTW, the KKK is a hate group.
Ordinarily I'd take the side of the public, if it's not obscene (by society standards) but I get the feeling this "Christian outfitters", as their tagline says, was targeted by homosexuals to make a point. That's all I can see from this. If they were the only tshirt company around maybe but....
I've recently decided to no longer support these types of targeted do-it-or-sue-it tricks. If they asked, were told no, and then dialoged that's one thing, but it's a set up to sue and get money and MAKE A DAMN POINT. It's too much like a sting operation and goes beyond acceptance and equality and actually helps nobody while causing trouble for people minding their own business JUST BECAUSE a group wants attention. Yes, it can sometimes take a little digging to know what is real and what isn't, but I'm willing to put in the effort and then judge people. It's the internet, I do what I want.
I feel the same way about handicapped laws since I've know there are litigious people LOOKING for reasons to sue. Not fix, not dialog just GIMMIE $$$. No sympathy here.
If anyone bothered to click the link in the story (Here it is for you) they'd see that the company rejected making the shirts explicitly because they were for a gay organization - a protected class in the City of Lexington. When they tried to argue that it was an offensive message the human rights commission discovered that the company had previously made all kinds of shirts with sexual themes and of questionable taste for other groups in the past.
Ordinarily I'd root for this companies ability to reject a customer based upon content of message. But after reading a little it seems these guys are just jerks who are using religion as a cover for their behavior.

That's what they do best--target, complain, sue, raise a stink--just to make a point. They do this to wedding shops and any other business that they can--just to cause trouble.
Homosexuals want tolerance, yet so many of them are unwilling to tolerate viewpoints that differ from theirs. It's all about ME ME ME, and look how special I am.
Barf!!
