I'm critical of Iran and other Islamic culture, and I'm skewing white liberals who refuse to criticize any culture with a darker skin color, yet are more than happy to criticize any perceived gay rights offenses or any other hot topic issue back home.
Preaching gay rights on your minivan bumper sticker at the Whole Foods is preaching to the choir, they need to be sending this message to Iran and other cultures where they push people off buildings for being gay.

Are you serious? The commentator was making the point that to be gay and SAFE in Iran, not what the culture should be. In the U.S., there there are laws against violence toward someone based on perceived sexual orientation. Someone who is perceived to be gay in Mississippi shouldn't need to worry about other's perceptions of them. Iranian law prohibits homosexuality so, although the country may be less stringent in its prohibition against homosexuality than other middle east countries it shares it's borders with, NPR makes the point that a gay person still needs to exercise discretion. NPR is not suggesting that Iran's laws are correct - but it is a different country so whereas we have certain expectations of law in the U.S., we have no control over other country's laws on this issue.

There is certainly a double standard.
We must not only tolerate Iranian bigotry, we use the word "tolerance" to describe their intolerance. NPR uses the phrase "respect Iranian culture on the outside, and they will tolerate you (being gay)" NPR is Orwell's 1984 all over again.
NPR has no problem calling Mississippi bigoted towards gays, but they engage in Orwellian Newspeak to protect Iranians from exposing their FAR WORSE bigotry.
Is NPR doing this, because a liberal they hold whites to a higher standard? Is that racist? Does it promote homophobia to describe intolerance towards gays as "tolerance" and so forth?

Well, let's see. To test your hypothesis, you might ask yourself whether liberals denounce homophobia from black Americans. Rightwingwatch routinely covers outrageous statements from Alan Keyes, E.W. Jackson, and other luminaries, so it can't be that.
This why I find conservatives so boring, silly, and dishonest.
First conservatives don't give one bit about gay rights.
Secondly, they don't give one bit about Iran or Iranian society.
All these kinds of conservative phony persecution stories are about conservatives wanting their bigotry excused.
Still standing on prejudice hatred and ignorance.
Also to bring up the thoroughly phony narrative, that liberals are mean to white people and afraid of non white people, with zero evidence to back those claims up.

You think these liberals would be more likely to tell the truth with Iran, as they have less listeners in Iran and the problem is worse in Iran.
