There are always choices. Since we both agree there are other places that we both would like to see our tax dollars spent right here at home, I think the logical conclusion is to do just that. And the threat can be taken care of within our own borders by taking proper steps right at home/keeping those dollars in our own country to do just that.
And remember, our country is essentially broke with 17+ trillion dollars in debt. Not to mention many programs like ssn, medicare, etc that are woefully underfunded. We can take a queue from most countries and stop policing/being the mother hen to the world. Our obsessive controlling behavior to stick our nose/dollars into just about everything in the world today will bring our country down to its knees financially one day.
We will just have to agree to disagree. The day when the US could function totally in isolation is long gone.

Allowing Ebola to run rampant in Africa is a pretty bad idea.
1 - increases chances for incursions into the US, or other countries
2 - economic impact is visible still
3 - Ebola makes a great terrorist weapon
spending money fighting Ebola is a lot better use than some bunch of numbnuts in Iraq/Syria

There is one problem, you can be ready for it, (which I think is a good thing) you can fight it, which are both a great idea...but you can never beat it b/c it is transfered by bats...which deficate on the fruit that many people eat, and also it is present in monkeys which many people/tribes in Africa eat.
but being prepared is a good thing, I just think the CDC needs to correct it's errors, and start to study these diseases much more aggressively for vaccines...there is no reason why we are not further along.

Oh, he's a democrat. And he's up for reelection in noted republican stronghold New York state. He must be reading the polling data from his constituents.

There's several Democrats calling for a travel ban.
However Coumo says in that piece you've linked to that Washington should "seriously consider" one.
I'd say that's a matter of covering your arse, not actually supporting it either way. Of course Washington should "seriously consider" one. No doubt that's exactly what they did. I mean duh. They decided against it. No doubt they'll consider it again, depending on what transpires.

Its called providing political cover. That is all.
Some researchers have speculated 21 days may not be enough time.
The 4 cases of Ebola diagnosed outside of Africa ( 1/Spain, 3/ US) fell well within the threshold.
