When did your parents immigrate from Italy? I just want to know how current their information is.
Their immigrated back in the 50's but have visited often. And yes they have used the italian healthcare system. The last time was approximately 9 years ago.
What do you think would happen in every other country with a national health care system if a politician supported going to the US system pre-ACA?
What do you think would happen in the US if all those over 65 were told Medicare is socialized medicine so we are ending it and you need to use the previous system the US had?

Lets get something straight....I believe that every man, woman and child should have quality healthcare.
How we achieve that i'll admit i don't know. However, imho i don't think it's socialized medicine.

Define socialized medicine? Is Medicare socialized medicine. Is the Canadian, French or German systems socialized medicine? Is the ACA socialized medicine and if so why?
A general practitioner in the UK's NHS makes around $100,000 a year. Hardly a burger flipper wage, don't you think?
I hardly think that is a fair wage, considering the skills, abilities and effort involved in becoming a doctor. You're not talking about the average, barely literate HS graduate, rather the very best and brightest. We have babysitters (aka teachers) and cops making about that much. These are professions that only require "average" intellect and ability. Why shouldn't a doctor make considerably more?

Aaah; I wouldn't take that $100k as being in any way accurate:

The most commonly over-worked word in the U.S. lexicon of terms used to laud a wholly capital based economy versus the rest of the world.
Socialized would imply that everthing from the provision to the caregivers all work for the government with every aspect of the provision of care being overseen AND dictated by that government.
Canada:
We are not told which doctor to see ..... Freedom of Choice= non-socialized
We are not restricted to specialists, either who, or how many, WE wish to see..... Freedom of choice= ditto.
Our care and treatment plan are decided upon by ourselves and our doctor's with NO government involvement at all......Freedom of choice= non-socialistic
Doctors are self employed and NOT employed by the government......Freedom of choice= another ditto.
The list goes on but all should get the point by now. "Socialized" is NOT a descriptor applicable to Canada's system of health care provision. Only nincompoops persist with that indoctrinated nonsense.
The only aspect of Canadian system of healthcare provision that may be confused with a socialized system is that the Federal Government mandates healthcare for all must be a provision of a certain minimum standard with the individual Provinces being given authority and responsibility to provide that, or above, level of services and reimburse practioners and hospitals for those services rendered.
6 million of your citizens per year as early as 2009? I'd be freak'n ashamed of those stats instead of on here boasting with the standard 'we're numero-uno' bullcrap.
There's something seriously wrong with a system that not only leads people to consider this themselves but whose medical insurance companies are offering it up as an affordable option that attains better service AND results. Cripes!
I said complicated patients. Most people going abroad get "routine" surgery. And yes. Some heart surgeries are "routine" I don't see any one going overseas for a mitral valve repair. Trust me. A mitral valve repair "not replacement" is something you don't want to save money on.
And the same percentage of Canadians (5%) is estimated to get healthcare outside their own country as the U.S. citizens. Imagine that. The same percentage who supposedly have access to universal care also opt to leave Canada for health care as well.
Can I have a link to the 5% number. I have read 1% with the majority of those already here avoiding the long Canadian winters
