President Nicolas Maduro's government said on Thursday it had taken over warehouses around Venezuela crammed with medical goods and food that "bourgeois criminals" were hoarding for speculation and contraband.
The socialist government says businessmen and wealthy opponents are trying to sabotage the economy to bring Maduro down, while also seeking to make profits from hoarding, price-gouging and smuggling across the border to Colombia.
Critics say 15 years of failed policies of state intervention are to blame for the OPEC nation's widespread shortages, high inflation and apparently recessionary economy. They accuse nouveau riche officials and military officers of illegal business practices.
Socialism starts with the goal of a utopia like existence.. ends up like this.
Maduro from last month upon disarming the citizens..
On Sunday Mr Maduro said his government "continued to pursue the dream, the utopia of a Venezuela in peace", and promised to build "peace with love, justice and a will to work".
eventually all the producers will leave Venezuela. then who will the socialists have to blame?
That started when they nationalized (aka stole) the oil production in the country.
Maduro is using the same old ploys of seizing private assets and redistribution at gunpoint....especially in the run up to elections. Chavez did this too.
I'm not saying the corrupt predecessors were better but rather that we all know how this is going to end and these guys are no better than the pigs before them, just different.
And nobody in their right mind is going to invest there and if you did, the mark-up due to "political risk" would have to be substantial.

It does vary somewhat by country so I wouldn't say that the left in the USA is socialist but the far left definitely is.

Seriously, get an handle on the different angles of the political spectrum. Most left-leaning people in American are actually left-libertarians. A socialist "leftist" would be Pope Francis.
