It will be interesting to see what the Blamer In Chief can come up with now. Will it be the good ol' standbye favorites such as "you're a racist", "GOP Obstruction", or "but GWB"? Or will he come up with a new list?
Mid Terms like all elections are statement about how we the people feel about those who govern. If the Dems loose seats it is because they have earned the ire of their constituents. If they gain seats then we the people agree with them.
2008 spoke volumes about America's dissatisfaction with Bush. The Dems went on to gain a super majority. The next election they lost it and they have continued to loose seats since. Obviously they are not as in touch with America as they would like to believe. Evidence that they have learned nothing from the Republicans defeats.
On that theme, the NY Times suggests canceling mid-term elections.
...especially at a time when Americans’ confidence in the ability of their government to address pressing concerns is at a record low, two-year House terms no longer make any sense. We should get rid of federal midterm elections entirely.
...
But the two-year cycle isn’t just unnecessary; it’s harmful to American politics.
The main impact of the midterm election in the modern era has been to weaken the president, the only government official (other than the powerless vice president) elected by the entire nation.
Thank goodness. But it only weakens a president when He is not doing a great job running the country. Then yes, he should be weakened.
Watched MSNBC for a bit today. Was kind of funny because they were scrambling for excuses left and right. I expect to see more as the evening goes on.
Anybody see Rachel Maddow? What was her reaction?
