I had mixed feelings about this one amendment because of the emotional aspects regarding sick people who are genuinely in need of it.
However the dopers have themselves to blame for what they have done in the past in places like CA. So while someone like me might be inclined to vote yes for a very small number of ailments it can be used for, that was not an option. Another words maybe 3 or 4 genuine reasons such as glaucoma, or cancer patients. However if it could be abused into things like insomnia, stress, anxiety, etc., I would be 100% against it.
The other problem seems to be that once a state approves medical uses, it changes the way pot is classified, and it is a foot in the door for decriminalization and/or legalization. That is part of the reasons you saw dopers sitting outside the polling places holding vote yes for amendment 2 signs. Who do they really think they are kidding, or are they too doped up to have any functioning brain cells left?
Your rationale amounts to punishing many people who'd benefit from medical marijuana simply because some people would take advantage of the law. Disdain for the dopers outweighs concern for the ill.

I'll put money down to wager that all these cons are drunks and / or chain smokers
the old farts are dying off in Florida!!!! that was a close vote for MD pot. 58% for it shows that next time it will pass, clearly the majority support it..!!!
Yes, I'm sure they'll be back next time, and there's a bigger turnout in presidential years.
IIRC, they had to make three attempts in Oregon to pass MM. Each time, they got closer. Because, not being dumb, they paid careful attention to what the no-voters had to say about what their concerns were, and modified their next attempt accordingly.
Also, I wonder why they chose to go the constitutional amendment route? If they'd gone for a regular statute, florida would have a MM law today. Anyone know?

Well it's because Florida is not at all Libertarian minded like the Western states.
Floridians need big daddy Dems and Republicans to keep them safe from this evil herb. lol
Sounds like the mentality here in Ohio. At least you all were able to get it on the ballot there. Our neocon Attorney General rejected the 2 proposals here, and he and his neocon buddy Governor Kasich have made no secret that they oppose use of cannabis even for medical purposes. Keep pushing. It will happen.
In Colorado legalizing and taxing weed has made it cheaper (well, it's made Colorado weed more expensive outside of Colorado - there's a premium on weed in the US with a CO label on it).
Competition always drives down prices. So now you have both legal and illegal weed competing for customers in CO. Currently, legal prices are about 33% higher than black market prices and that's mostly due to the very high tax rates.
