How do you think a good portion of us feel when we share the same side of the aisle with posters who start over the top Obama threads? Just know there are some of us out there that disapprove and are embarrassed by the nonsense of some threads.

I agree the forum has gone down hill when smart good posters that were worth reading and could learn from fled the forum. Too much of what is left is partisan bickering and drivel but there are still posters on both sides worth following.

Personally it has started to get me leery of Republicans and conservatives. Growing up as a Republican in CA I hadn't come across much social conservative/ right wing christian dogma so I didn't know how insane the the rural hick areas of this country really are. This forum has really opened my eyes up to it.
A little bit, although not really. I think this forum leans more conservative than the remainder of the groups that I interact with, apart from some family members. This has meant that as long as they're reasonable and fair towards people, I've felt a little more comfortable having more conservative views on some things. For example, I think that the Ferguson situation is nuanced and complicated - however, the majority of vocal people I know are taking a one-dimensional THIS IS INJUSTICE approach, which I think is unfair. Seeing some on the other side saying BROWN WAS A THUG, which also unfair in my opinion, helps reinforce my belief that the situation is nuanced and complicated, which I might not be getting if I was only exposed to the INJUSTICE side.

This forum has also convinced me that people who view one political party, and only one political party, as a scourge on America, probably aren't sources that are providing valuable comments to help me form my political identity.
