What needs reform is that the United States makes it incredibly difficult for honest law abiding people with excellent skills and backgrounds to emigrate to the United States. However the persons willing to break US laws are able to pour into the country in mass numbers and many are then granted legal status, particularly if they manage to have a baby while in the United States. Thus, while the law abiding (and generally more skilled/educated) people are kept out, the lawbreakers (and generally less skilled/educated) come in huge waves and then are eventually granted legal status. Regardless of skills and education however the people the United States needs and wants to immigrate are the ones who will follow the laws, but those are the ones the current laws and practices keep out. By their very entry into the United States the current immigrants are only those who are willing to ignore United States law, while the law abiding wait endlessly for authorization to immigrate. It is absurd.

What needs to be done is simple. Create faster and easier means for those who want to adhere to United States laws to immigrate legally. Make it more difficult to immigrate illegally, more likely to get caught, and more unpleasant to get caught.

The general reform that is needed is obvious, the difficult challenge is to draft laws, policies and practices that allow this to happen.

Remember, the current president has said: he doesn't have the authority to give amnesty through executive order, he said it himself on video, in words. Now he pulls out the rug from under the American people and doesnt care about the earthquake that happen this month where voters elected Repubs.

Wonder what other Laws he doesn't like he'll can change with an EO?

The IRS has trouble enforcing the tax laws so maybe we can just say no one has to pay in 2015.

It doesn't matter anyway, like you said, until the border gets secured nothing will change.
More like 20,000 at a cost of about $90,000 a year for each of them. Win for a state like Texas- increased middle class employment on the federal dime.

It won't matter so long as the undocumented can find employment.

We have a Congress controlled by pathetic Republicans. Rather than coming up with a plan like this, they remain focused on opposing the President in a show of stupidity second to none. Typical responses to the President's fine words from Republicans, have about as much lift as a brick balloon. Republican ideas and opposition are atrocious compared to those of this great President Obama.

Excellent speech by our great President. Great plan. No wonder Latinos overwhelmingly support Dems.

"Our Great President" is the cheapest model replacement toilet one can get at a big box hardware store. It has it a tiny EPA friendly water reservoir so must be flushed several times to clear the crap. It's meant to be hidden in a closet.

We do have a path to citizenship, those five million ignored it, violated it, and urinated all over it.

Get ready for a bunch of formerly illegal contractors to now become legal and able to bid on government contracts and get "minority business" status and steal work from Americans.

Your family plumbing business that has followed all the laws and paid taxes for generations will now lose out to "Pedro's Plumbing".

But deporting them is not a realistic option. Everyone knows that. So what do you do?
