Amnesty wasn't a solution in the 80's and no they are not going to self deport, the focus of the issue is what to do with the illegal immigrants already here. So what now, if amnesty is not a solution in any form what now, where do we go from here or do we continue to wait for the perfect bill. Amnesty isn't agreeable so now what?
Some form of amnesty is the solution, but it can't be a blank amnesty. It needs to be given to people who has already been in the country for a while and there should be a 10 year year green card period where they can still be deported if they do something wrong. I hope congress can figure out a solution.
But what isn't the solution is for Obama to come in and abuse executive orders to get what he wants. That will hurt the democrat party, and it will enrage the Republican base making immigration reform impossible.
If Obama takes executive action, then there will be a flood of new illegal immigrants arriving and hoping for the same amnesty. Borders need to be secured before any immigration reform. Right now, borders are not secure.
I am a child of immigrants who arrived legally, waiting 10 years for green card, then more years for naturalization. It isn't fair for illegal immigrants to skip the line and not follow the rules.
He's got lawyers that know their way around the Constitution and other agency laws.
He's been able to skirt the law while staying within the bounds to do what he's wanted to do.

Again, YES. The President is sworn to uphold the Constitution. If he feels a law is not Constitutional, and there is a legal argument to support his opinion, then he can refuse to uphold a law. The FIRST obligation of the President, before everything else, is to uphold the Constitution of the United States.

And he did uphold the law. It's just that the law doesn't give a time table for deportation of illegals.
So he gave them 2 years before they would be deported. And then he extended that 2 more years.
He never said they could stay permanently because our laws do not allow that.
So he played the gray area.

What do you mean they won't self-deport? I thought they were only here to work. If that's the case then wouldn't they leave with no jobs to support themselves via e-verify? Would they still remain here with all benefits denied them including birthright citizenship for their kids? I'd rather we remained with the status quo than to grant them amnesty if legislation doesn't get passed as in the above. Amnesty will just compound the problem by encouraging more illegal immigration.

Why grant any of them amnesty? Just because they managed to evade the law the longest that means it's justified?
Actually, you're missing the whole point of Amnesty. King O waves his magic wand and grants everyone Amnesty...so then no one can come after him for being an "illegal".

Let those remain that haven't committed a felony offense? Um no, most of them have either committed felony ID theft or tax evasion to work so yes they have committed those crimes many of them just haven't been caught and convicted yet. Let em come forward and show how they were able to work in this country without doing one or both of the above and that cuts way back on those whom they deem worthy of amnesty.
Its not abuse of power. He is, in fact, limiting the power his is wielding by saying he isn't going to enforce the law to the full extent.
