My parents brought over when I 12, From Soviet Union. My parents are both college educated, but never worked as Architects in the US. Mom works as a comptroller (accounting), dad is a software engineer like me.

When we first came, dad was able to get a silent partner and so operated a jewelry store. Computer programming pays about the same, but with better hours.

construction pays 20 a day for a 12 hour day in mexico. you can make that in an hour roofing in san diego.
not hard to figure out the answer esecially since nobody else wants to do hard work here. btw new orleans we rebuilt with subcontract mexican labor plenty of it illegal, not by the locals at all which wanted much much more money and willing to do a whole lot less for it.

A bright move would be to go north, close to the border with Canada, where I suppose there are less controls than in the southern states.

What I don't understand is why if you have a kid here it is automatically an American citizen.. I don't believe other countries do that....

I would be ecstatic that the President is suspending deportations.

I would probably do what they're doing - but then, I never blamed them, I blamed the idiots running our country who have allowed it to happen and then gone the amnesty route.

What I wouldn't do is wave the Mexican flag at every parade (except Cinco de Mayo) or flip the bird at the deportation officers.

Why would you attend the Cinco de Mayo parade if you were Indian, Chinese, or Cuban?

It doesn't matter what you would do in their situation. A lot of illegals probably come here because they know our laws are unenforced and that they can do fairly well here. I totally get illegal immigrants motivation and if I lived in Mexico or another country in close proximity, I would consider it. That said, its not good for Americans to have illegal immigrants in the labor market and does nothing but undercut wages.

When I was in college I worked in a local restaurant with a illegal guy. He was a good guy in his mid 20s and we all liked him and hung out on occasion. He rented a room and worked a lot. No car, no health insurance, 401k, etc. Probably paid around $500 a month all inclusive for a room. bought food and alcohol, that's about it outside of the odd purchase. He probably made around $2000 a month off the books and saved $1000 of it.

When an opportunity like that is available, it will be pursued. The average yearly salary in Mexico is around $12,000, which is about what he saved in a year (i imagine). If I could go to Mexico for a year, work 50 hours a week at a restaurant, live simply, and come home with $50,000 in the bank, I would .

Its just not good for American workers to have people like this in the labor market and for that reason the laws need to be enforced.

I know I would not care ! ! !

.
Nor would I.

Everyone has a human right to try to better their place in life. The notion that a human being can be "illegal" is the problem we have. It's the law that's bad, not the people.

They aren't "illegal". They are an illegal alien because they illegally crossed the border into the USofA.
