I always believe that in order to discuss religion, one needs to understand that religion first. I will be the first to admit that I don't understand Muslim religion, nor do I have a particular interests in it. Just out of curiosity, I read about Sharia law and Quran, both sound pretty scary to me. However, Muslims have been practicing this religion for thousands of years, and yes, I do believe most if not all Muslim I personally know of are peaceful people.
I came from a Christian family and both my brother and I had pre-marital sex. Do we make headline news? We don't.
There is no specific prohibition in the Bible against sex between an unmarried man and unmarried woman. However, "sexual immorality" is denounced in about 25 passages in the New Testament. The word translated as "sexual immorality" or "fornication" in English versions of the Bible is the Greek word porneia, which means "illicit sexual intercourse."
Jesus said this:
[Jesus] said, "It is what comes out of a person that defiles. For it is from within, from the human heart, that evil intentions come: fornication, theft, murder, adultery, avarice, wickedness, deceit, licentiousness, envy, slander, pride, folly. I don't go to church at all, and I have been told I am not a true Christian. My ex committed suicide and he has been told he went straightly to hell. Although he was a criminal defense attorney, people have been called him stupid, although he was a dedicated single father, people have been calling him selfish.
I then dated a talented software engineer, he is one of the most honorable man I have ever met, yet people from the church have told me he has been punished simply because he suffered from a rare genetic illness.
I have to admit, I don't understand my own religion. So why do I need to judge others?
How do you call OP honest journalism when the author has to put "Muslim" as the headline in order to gain publicity? As a journalist you have a responsibility to examine your motives and ensure that your own personal feelings and emotions do not condition what you report, influence who you talk to, or determine which elements of the story you highlight. Do you HONESTLY believe this OP is honest and fair journalism?
Sorry for the tardy response but it is just an opinion that it would be the same influence that results in all of those priests abusing kiddies articles probably being headlined "Catholic priest charged with..... or Methodist minister caught.... and perhaps even stuff like Mormon Leader Warren Jeffs was arrested today......
It's got to do with the religiosity of the perpetrator being front and center due to the exposure given that religion by the adherents themselves.
The wearing of the head coverings is not so much an edict of Islam as it has become a symbol for display in the same way as the wearing of the Turban evolved through time from a simple way of keeping ones long hair from ending up in the dye vats while engaged in the historical endeavour associated with Sikhs of the day and the dying of fabrics to now be interpreted as an integral part and a very visible symbol of their faith.
It's been going on forever on this forum, just read the names of people who post hate threads against Muslims and you know who they are, the average American doesn't have such hatred towards Muslims.
These are groups that are creating problems between Americans and Muslims, so they can gain from it.
If you're Muslims, defend Muslims or just disagree with certain ideas then you're portrayed as Jihadist, radical, or a Hamas supporters and it's done in purpose.
It's a tactic that use to work but not anymore, Americans can't be fooled all the time
