A tragedy yes but understandable. Someone waving around a gun you assume to be fake in a violent neighborhood who supposedly reached for it when confronted.
I know that police officers have a very tough job. But seriously, if this officer couldn't figure out the differences between a toy gun and a real one, and he must target a 12 year old boy to feel safer, he was really not qualified for this job.

You cannot tell the differences between a real gun and a fake gun?
Please tell me, exactly how do you identify this as a "fake gun" in a split second when somebody, who've you told to put their hands above their head, reaches for it instead?
The toy gun in question. Looks damn real to me. In an area where teens are frequently busted for possessing or even committing crimes with real firearms, I'm not surprised in the least that the police shot when he reached for it after being told to put his hands up.
It looks VERY real.
I imagine it looks even more real when it's pointed at you.

Regardless of the specific accident: I never understood why police fire their guns aiming to kill. It's either a barrage of bullets, or hitting vital organs. Why not aim first at legs or arms? Something in the way these troopers are trained seems wrong.
