If we all listened to the right-wingers, none of us, except a very small handful, would have the time or energy to cry about evil libruls day in and day out. So, I'm just gonna chalk this up as more typical right-wing outrage that comes to pass. But, hey, what am I saying? This is the only country in the world where every single business is just one tax increase, one regulation away from chapter 11 bankruptcy; sounds about right, doesn't it?

I didn't see where anyone mentioned liberals..well except for you.
Hyperbole of your post aside, should politicians micro manage private business?

Figures. Government is never held to the same standards as real workers and businesses.

Let's call this a different look at this scheduling thing.

Way back when I worked for a very large California retailer. As a result of a union negotiation with the company, managers were required to write their schedules in ink. The schedule had to be posted several days prior to the start of the workweek, which was Monday, IIRC.

Why?

Well, the posting requirement was so that the employees could plan ahead for things like daycare or medical appointments etc.

The ink requirement was because too many store managers would write in pencil, the change schedules willy nilly, leaving employees whose plans had to change at the whim of the manager.

I believe the SF ordnance is overkill, but keep in mind that there are those company managers who will take advantage of their employees just because they can. And of course, the employee's have choice. They can take it or leaver it.

I see more contract workers coming up. No matter what you do the smartest guys in the room will always adjust. We will not hire you ;but we will let you do contract work. Been a problem for year now with more and more regulations covering actual employees.

How anal-retentive would a person have to be to not only think up an idea like this but to actually legislate it?

Read the article. The union was behind this after they failed to negotiate a longer lag time for their unionized workers in..guess where ? San Fran.
