No we do not. There are a few hundred thousand who may qualify as refugees or who we cannot return without hearings...but mostly we just cut them loose. May cost the states on stuff like education but the feds don't even notice.

Well, then, the House should take the bill up and make the changes it wants and send it back.

Or, Republicans could, you know, continue to do nothing but whine.

Whining they are good at. Legislating...not so much.

How many bills from the House has Harry Reid sat on? Whine? You mean not wanting illegal aliens to gain amnesty is to whine? Really? They know damned well that Obama would veto anything that doesn't give illegal aliens amnesty. There is no bill needed anyway. We already have immigration laws on the books. Amnesty isn't "reform".

Regulation of businesses? Business owners already know that it is unlawful to hire illegal aliens. E-verify must be the law of the land to keep them honest and keep illegal aliens out of our country.
No not quite, if all those on visas and here illegally disappeared tomorrow those jobs would not be filled by resident citizens. If the established citizenship they would work in those jobs at least initially but not for long at current wages, maybe at increased wages some would remain.

There is very little enforcement of businesses, they don't have the resources.

But why would those who came on a visa disappear? That was their ticket to come here and work. Picking crops is not a career job. Americans value and education and a middle classed lifestyle.

BS that there aren't resources to clamp down on the businesses that hire illegal aliens. E-verify is very simple and inexpensive to use. It should be mandated in every work place.

Whine, whine, whine, instead of doing something--anything. If they don't like the bill, then they should produce one of their own.

But they won't because they don't want to go on record with anything when it comes to immigration. They are too gutless to do something that might **** off their crybaby right wing, and they dare not do anything that might **** off the growing Hispanic population.

So their solution is to do nothing but whine, whine, whine.

The Status Quo will rule-which means 11 million stay, 5 mill covered by the EO. The GOP needs to gain at least 17% more of the Latino vote to equal W, and have any shot at even his pithy 271 EC total. They are whining, because they know in this situation, they are powerless, but they need to dupe the base into thinking they are planning to do something. The radical part of the party is easy to dupe.

Fixing eVerify so that it actually worked would be a huge and time consuming task. Simply getting the data base where it has an acceptable error rate would cost a lot of money. Then you need thousand of foot soldiers out there making sure that the people who work are actually the people on the books.

I would think a few years and billions of dollars. YOu need another new police department to run it.

The voters DO NOT WANT OBAMA GETTING HIS WAY. They were asked 4 weeks ago, and they said NO, resoundingly. If the "silent majority" that stayed home really wanted Obama to have an easier time, they'd have come out to vote Dem to ensure he could. They didn't.

So your novel idea is for the GOP to do the opposite of what those who voted for them wish, just so the guy the voters want opposed faces less opposition? How does that make any sense?

And the really laughable thing is the "choices" you give the GOP:
Then that's utterly pathetic that many people would rather cut off their nose to spite their face, instead of working with the President. Reality is a very subjective thing it seems.

Quote:
  1. Do what Obama wants now, lose your constituents
  2. Do what Obama wants later, lose your constituents
  3. Do what your constituents want, Obama does whatever he pleases anyway and blames you, lose your constituents
  4. Do nothing, lose your constituents.
I mean really, that's the only four choices I've seen thus far. No matter what the people want or vote for, we will all do whatever Obama wants, EFF_YOU to the People, EFF_YOU to the GOP, and EFF_YOU to anyone not letting Obama have Obama's way...so why not just go along with Obama, since he'll get his way sooner or later?
That's the result when your best political strategy is "I'm against, what the guy is for".
