Japan, Korea and Taiwan does!

They actually make comparable items to ours.

Only assembled in China. It accounts for very little of the cost. The vast majority of the money stays in America. Rest of it goes to Korea and Germany.

Yeah guy.....when is the last time you bought a knife.......1945?

I work at a local hardware. We sell a number of items that are US made along with Chinese made. Despite people bitching about the "foreign" crap, the US made are very slow movers.

For instance a fiberglass handled round point shovel from Seymour Indiana retails for about $30.00
A similar unit from China will retail for around 20. On sale 14ish.

We make more $$ on the China shovel. And we still make $$ when its on sale.

Sadly that is often the case.

The per capita income will be lower than in the United States for decades to come. This is the reality.

I thought it was the fault of Americans who refuse to buy over priced American labor cost to benefit the few. We gave beads to buy NY at one times remember.

Something has got to give though. Taxes increases are almost completely out of the question so the US will have to cut funding to entitlements and increase funding for the military or withdraw from the Middle East (and abandon Israel) and focus on Asia. None of those options are politically palatable and abandoning the Middle East and Israel is a non-starter for the vast majority of voters especially Republican voters.

well,

Globalization increases competition benefiting consumers. It also benefits American producers and workers by motivating them to create better goods and services that, through globalization, can reach world markets. In turn, this creates more opportunity and jobs back home. All Americans are the beneficiaries!

Globalization Benefits American Workers

Your example and experience just prove above theory to be true.

While I don't think globalization is a bad thing, I do want to point out that the entire narrative is dominated by those who have benefited from globalization aka the elite. The media (which is a huge beneficiary of globalization) tend to promote the views of those who benefited from globalization while marginalizing those who oppose it. Right wingers who oppose globalization are often dismissed as xenophobic racists while left wingers who oppose globalization are dismissed as socialists. There are real consequences to globalization and these need to be addressed.
