Just saw that. The 'victim', Jackie, caught in multiple lies. When are people going to learn? Where the hell has journalistic integrity gone in this country? Was a time the fifth estate could be somewhat trusted, but like Ronnie said, "Trust, but verify."
It seems now I find myself first disbelieving the majority of new stories I see. Regardless of the source. Only after much checking do I begin to put any credence into news accounts.
Are you kidding? There's more transparency than ever in news media. And more sources than ever.
What is this magical thinking about the way things used to be in the past? You mean when the media helped cover up Jack Kennedy's affairs and dependence on pain killers to get through the day? Or when they helped to cover up FDR's various illnesses?
The thing I don't understand is this liberal hatred of white males. This is really what it all comes down to and it is precisely what pushed RS over the edge to publish an unsubstantiated article. They wanted this juicy story to be SO true SO bad and that desire pushed publication.
I have no doubt that Rolling Stone might have violated journalistic integrity when publishing this article. It's reasonable for them to face some fallout from that.
But seriously - sexual assault is a serious crime. Victims are often shamed and not believed by others. It's a major problem that society is like this today, and it has nothing to do with liberals hating white males (which we all know is hyperbole.)

Might have violated journalistic integrity???? They didn't even make an effort to reach out to the accused! The RS reporter was rape shopping, going from campus to campus trying to find the right clickbait.
It looks like the WH helped create the so-called rape crisis sweeping the country and then fed RS a story guaranteed to inflame everyone. And why is the WH so determined to push the rape crisis meme when it may well be totally bogus? Statistics Don't Back Up Claims About 'Rape Culture' - US News
You really believe this has nothing to do with liberals hating white males? I'm beginning to think the only victim in this mess is white males.

That's a whole different topic. This thread is about Rolling Stone Mag and their pitiful reporting.
University students shouldn't be denied the right to be considered innocent until proven guilty because they are attending a university, and this fracas demonstrates exactly why that right matters in practice and not just in principle.
As disgusting as the whole thing is and the failure of journalistic integrity I'm glad Rolling Stone at least had the shame and decency to recant when they fully realized what they had done.
The problem is, we never seem to learn from our mistakes. The Michael Brown case was just the Duke Lacrosse case all over again. We will not be able to move ahead as a nation and society towards MLK's dream until we can figure out how to ignore race hustlers like Jackson and Sharpton.
