Ten Reasons Why A Sustained Drop In Oil Prices Could Be Catastrophic
In 1993 here was the narrative:

Stephen Brown, a senior economist at the Federal Reserve Bank of Dallas, said that lower oil prices, if sustained, would reduce inflation, increase growth and narrow the trade deficit. Each dollar drop in oil prices would add about one-tenth of a percentage point to G.D.P. growth for each of the next two years, reduce consumer prices by three-tenths of 1 percent and narrow the trade deficit by $240 million a month

Yeah well that maybe good for the few in the oil industry but for the rest of the consumers on the planet cheap oil is a benefit to our wallets.

So oil prices have been kept at inflated prices for years and years. Thought so. Low oil prices are a plus and gave us an economic boon in the early to mid 90s.
Its also being done to screw Russia and to get them behind an anti west sentiment. Get ready for World War 2.5, they need something to keep the economy going after the inevitable banking crash.

High oil prices are good for some folks, bad for others, but in general, lower energy prices are a boost to the entire economy. At some point the prices even out, because of the way the commodities market operates. It's a risky market to be in, whether you are a dairy farmer or an oil man.

Cheap oil prices means that OPEC will be back in control, because the shale oil folks will not make enough profit to provide their oil to the market.

It's quite the quandary for the green energy freaks like Obama. He wants to drive up oil prices to make alternative energy viable, but then that makes the US oil companies and US fracking companies wealthy.

Sucks to be Texas or North Dakota right now. For just about all of the rest, this is good news. If sustained, the US is going to see a broad-based improvement in prosperity not known since the cheap energy days of the 1950s.

Saudi Arabia is a one trick pony though. Their entire economy depends on oil. At least our economy is diverse.

I say stare 'em down.

So far here in Texas we're fine. Texas has weathered oil booms and busts for decades now and this too shall pass.

It's early. There is no doubt that a bust is coming if prices remain depressed.

"In Houston, Texas, the first oil industry layoffs have been announced, with realtors there predicting a sharp decline, up to 12 percent, in home sales next year."
