Economic sanctions are all fine and funny until someone decides to drops some bombs on Pearl Harbor.
And how'd THAT work out for the Japanese?
The American and European sanctions against Russia are not at all like the sanctions put in place against Japan. Those sanction cut Japan off from oil COMPLETELY. Those sanctions wouldn't have simply hurt or even crippled Japan, they would have sent it back to the pre-industrial age.
More of a threat to Putins' power are the oligarchs who actually RUN the Russian economy.
Putin replaced the original oligarchs (like Khodorkovsky) with his buddies. They're likely to be much more loyal because they owe everything to him.
I'm happy to see him squeezed from all sides, but it's not going to end well. Putin has an ego the size of Russia and, especially given the alternate reality he's created for himself, he's not going to back down.
Ignorant bullsh*t.
He won't launch nukes. That's just more wingnut drama queen "the sky is falling" nonsense of the same type you folks have been going on an on about for the last half-decade ("the U.S. dollar will collapse, there will be hyperinflation, there will be food riots in the U.S., the Feds are coming for your guns, Obama will proclaim himself 'President for Life', the DOW will drop to 3,000, the UE rate will climb to 40%, etc, etc, etc).
How do you even survive, living in such fear? You folks seem to be afraid of EVERYTHING.
All you Bots are like the followers of Jim Jones. Ready to glow for your Messiah.
As you're evidently ready to follow your hero, master chess-player Putin, straight into the ditch.
Your panic over this inevitable fate is utterly hilarious. But please do keep on spouting nonsense about Obama wanting a nuclear war if it makes you feel better.
The reality is that Putin will, eventually, have to give up on his dream of re-establishing the USSR, at least for the time being. So sad for you.
The US and NATO are playing a dangerous game poking a bear that does not have that much to loose.
Russia's economy is in large part based on military and he could make sizable territorial gains in eastern Europe without much resistance.
The US and NATO could not economically afford to fight a long term boots on the ground war in eastern Europe either financially or from a perspective of public support.
A large scale conventional war could be a win/win for Russia and a quagmire for NATO.
As a politician, Putin could redirect any anger concerning the failing Russian economy at the US and NATO and garner a lot of support among his own people. The US on the other hand has little stomach for war and public support would be against any involvement is eastern Europe.
Right-wingers will spin it as a victory for Putin, the great peace-maker, same as they did when Assad turned over his chemical weapons a year ago. Somehow that was an "embarrassment" for Obama.
