Barack trying to create a legacy since he will mostly be remembered as the idiot who screwed up everyone's healthcare.
No, what you're seeing is election politics at its best.
Hillary Clinton, the most likely Democratic nominee, has said that she would remove the embargo, or that she thinks it'd be a good idea to do so.
If this hadn't happened now, and instead happened in 2016, then its likely she may face a backlash vote in Southern Florida, a key electoral college state.
President Obama doing this now removes her hands from the process, keeping her hands free of the blood. They'll need that if they run against a former GOP governor of the state.
I would love to travel to Cuba while it still has the mid-50s look and feel. In a short while, it will be overrun with American culture and that will be lost forever.
There was a lot more to the release of the American prisoner this morning than met the eye. It is apparently part of a move on both sides to normalize US-Cuba relations including establishing embassies. It's about time.
B.S.!!! Cuba had one of the best economy in the Latin countries before Castro lied to the Cuban people and once he got to power and brought by force communism their economy went down the toilet with their civil liberties.
What Castro did was take ownership of all American investments in the island and confiscated every private property and personal bank accounts of everybody including All Cubans that's why millions fled to the U.S.A and Castro gave the finger to all investors and refused to pay Cuba's debt.
Not only that, Castro took the side of the Soviets during the Cold War to bring down the U.S.A.
If Obama wants to forgive and forget all that with the same regime then what guarantees Americans will get that the Castro's brothers won't do the same thing again if they invest in the island?
The "best economy" to whose benefit? A tiny minority of Spanish descendants and American investors?
Yeah...how did that end up working out? If the Cuban people were so happy, why was a ragtag group of rebels able to run an American equipped military out of the country?
Castro took the side of the Soviets because we forced him to.
Who cares if Castro expropriated American held property? You're leasing a whole Naval base in Cuba for a dollar a year.

Way past overdue. We do business with "communist" China, Belarus, and Vietnam; no point in excluding Cuba.
