How long have you been uneasy with the US buddying up to the human rights violating scumbags in China, Saudi Arabia, and other places throughout our history.? Or are you only uneasy because Obama's involved?
I don't like any of it but Obama seems to really go out of his way to accommodate them.

It's pretty clear that Obama and his team can't negotiate themselves out of a paper bag!
I mean just look at Bergdahl, they still won't come out with his report and I wonder why... this guy was a traitor and we exchange 5 know terrorists for him.
What makes me uneasy is how Obama is seen buddying up with all these dictators. How are people ok with this?
People are "ok with this" because they recognize pragmatism when they see it.
Fifty years of sanctions and other nonsense has done nothing to improve relations between the two countries.
All it has led to is posturing for the sake of posturing.
I applaud the president and particularly Pope Francis for recognizing that there are always real humans impacted by all of the saber-rattling.
how do you normalize a totalitarian country where the regime refuses to change and give its people basic rights?
Obama didn't demand anything from them.
The same way you do it with Saudi Arabia, China, Kuwait, Russia, and a host of other thugocracies with whom we deal.
Having diplomatic relations does not make you a supporter of said regime. Ignoring them just gives Castro a scapegoat for all his crimes. And it makes us look stupid.
We are not going to change their regime. Eventually, it will wither and morph into something else. And by then we will be on location with the contacts to influence that change and help it into a positive direction.

Obama didn't demand anything from them. Obama just threw 50 years of trying to make the totalitarian government change for nothing.
Why should we continue an asinine policy towards Cuba that's accomplished nothing in 50+ years while hypocritically hopping in bed with totalitarian regimes like China and Saudi Arabia?

simple, we have to tolerate Saudi Arabia because they are the only few allies in the region against bigger foes in Iran and extreme Muslims.
China is the biggest economy in the world and is in our best interest to deal with them and China is next to Hong Kong and Taiwan and they keep in check North Korea from basically invading South Korea and Japan and starting WW 3 in the region.
Cuba doesn't offer anything to the U.S.A. ....get the picture?

So where do you draw the line? Do you make friends with ISIS? Would you have wanted us to forgive Hitler for all that he did? Why can't we focus on building stronger relationships with our allies who aren't dictators instead of throwing them under the bus constantly.
And make no mistake Obama could care less about the people involved. He is out for power.

That would benefit the US just HOW?
because I don't see China and Saudi Arabia confiscating American investments in their countries and ignoring treaties and their debt.
China and Saudi Arabia are not 90 miles from the U.S.A.
China has evolved since the Mao days and Cuba hasn't......same people running the show since 1959.
