nothing will work as long as the totalitarian government in Cuba is in power and makes no concessions.

i'm for opening relations with Cuba as long that the Cuban government makes the concessions, if not then it will be another 3rd world country island that outside groups will exploit for cheap labor while only benefiting a few in the Cuban government.

In other words, exactly how it was when Castro took over? Exactly like the Government we supported?

Good point. The Batista government, which we vigorously supported, was at least as crappy as Castro.

Umm, that would be the "concessions" the US would ask for: American companies coming in to exploit cheap labor while benefiting a few in the Cuban government. That is how capitalism typically works in third world countries, unless the government controls it for a more socialized benefit to all the people.

actually, Cuba before Castro, wasn't perfect like the rest of the Latin countries with internal corruption and ineptitude. A result of 400 years of being colonies of Spain. That's another topic that most Americans don't understand why Latin countries have struggled with internal wars and corruption and never could get ahead only a few elites in those countries who are light skin who control the Latin Countries but Cuba before was never in this totalitarian state like it is under Castro.

That's like comparing Mexico who the internal government is corrupt and people live in poverty and a few elites who live well and control the system but you still have some basic rights to North KOREA.....there is a huge difference.

there is a huge difference between Cuba pre Castro and Cuba under Castro.

LMAO!!! so you find political interests more nobler than economical personal interests?

its hard to understand for you that under free market capitalism both sides can benefit? you need a totalitarian government to makes things "right"? lol

history shows that the masses who have benefited the most in the history of the world were the societies that had free open markets with individual rights and freedom.

don't confuse free market capitalism with Corporatism under a totalitarian government, not the same thing. That is what Cuba will be if we just open the market and the totalitarian government in Cuba stays in power.

the rest of the world can trade with Cuba and doesn't have an embargo and still Cuba is a totalitarian state that exploits the masses for the benefit of a few in the government.

what makes you think if we open relations and the market with Cuba with NO concessions , the totalitarian government will change?......people especially the young ones here are naive and live in a dream world.....lol

If the rest of the world is trading with Cuba then what good is our boycott doing other than to ensure that businesses in other countries are getting the benefit?

Have you actually lived in a third world country? I have. It doesn't sound like you have.
