Japanese robotic mannequins would reduce risk while maintaining the appearance of stiff upper lips.

But, alas, the public demands organic.

They are soldiers, ceremonial duty is only one part of there duties and the bear skins they out on their heads are from culled bears in Canada, which are shot by hunters every year.

The Canadians have stated that the cull would be needed regardless, so no animals are killed specifically for the bear skins.

As for taxpayer funded celebrities isn't the US President who is your head of state has massive security around him.

Whilst the Guard and events like trooping the colour are part of our history and culture, and indeed national identity.

Unfortunately they make easy targets, too. I hope they stay safe because they are so high profile, tempting to terrorists

How sad that something so iconic, Palace Guards, now has to be changed because of whack-job religious zealots. "Scourge of the earth" my Dad used to call them after being there in WWII. By golly, he was so right!

The Guards are more aggressive here.

This incident in 2010 helped lead to metal chains being placed around the area near to sentry boxes and now the boxes are being removed further behind proper railings.
