Yep....it's been in someones house since 1996...then pawned....then bought....with a back ground check....then the person lied on the 4473...then sold it....
The laws don't work, when a criminal is involved...why is that so hard to understand?
But, more laws are obviously needed, because the current laws are enforced....right...
It was purchased from the pawn shop and the purchaser passed a background check, after that the buyer gave it to a cousin and it does not appear that a background check was done, no records after that because background checks are not required. Who lied on the 4473?
On another thread you indicated you wanted to know how he got the gun, if that is true GA is the best place not to find out. If all goes as usual we will never know who gave the gun to Brimsely, would have been nice to have background checks to find out who was the last person to legally own the gun.
Simple question, why do you think this pawn shop is number 5 nationally for guns used in a crime
Ok Goodnight, exactly how are you going to track down illegal purchases if private purchases require a background check? You think someone buying an illegal gun will get the name of the seller? And then pass it on to the police when caught? The police can't file a warrant on "some guy down the street."

If each transfer required a background check we would know the name of the last legal seller and he would be the last person in the chain, did he sell the gun, did he "lose" the gun and forget to report. The issue isn't the buyer it's the seller relative to illegal guns.

So now you're going to require gun owners to be psychic and know that the gun that they locked up two years ago is still there. Just keep digging...
He didn't buy the gun in NYS and if GA had background checks on private sales he would not have a gun unless it was sold illegally. The gun control laws in GA are very loose, that is why it is a favorite destination for guns, they are complicit.
This whole premise is ignorant as is the statement saying a pawn shop, a retail business sells guns in violation of federal law.
OP, before shooting off your obviously misinformed mouth, do a little research and you will see a pawn shop selling guns has to be federally license and background checks have to be done.

There is a chain of ownership for LEGAL transfers.
You seem to think dubious people are going to request background checks on other dubious people ?
Gun laws can't force criminals do to background checks on each other before they sell guns.
Better yet Goodnight, what about the guns already there? The only way to get them ALL registered and thus all of them into the "legal trackable" realm would be to break down EVERY door in the country and search for any gun someone MIGHT have. Then line up the police/national guard/military at one ocean, and march over every square inch of ground registering every gun they encounter until they reach the next ocean. Are you seriously proposing this?

I have news for you... Most if not all states do not require any paperwork or background checks on private parties transferring guns. Georgia is the same as other states.
If I have a gun and want to sell it to my neighbor, how is a background check enforced? No one knows I have it. The is no gun registration that tracks guns.
Universal background checks could only be enforced if gun registration is implemented. That won't be happening anytime soon.
Universal background checks are code word for registration.
