I don't like what he said, but as long as his personal beliefs didn't show up on the job I don't think he should have been fired. IF he had let it effect his job in any way, THEN he should be fired.

what freedoms is he giving up? did he get arrested?? Do you even know what freedom of speech means?

you are free to be a bigot, and your employer is free to fire you for diarrhea of the mouth.

Until your fired for being anti cop, supporting peta, protesting a war or wall st.

Why is employment tied to similar political beliefs? It is a very scary road.

2 days ago you were PO'd because a pregnant woman was suing UPS for lost wages because she had to go out on medical leave for not being able to lift 70 lbs.

now you're up in arms because some bigot got canned over voicing his opinion and saying some pretty offensive stuff.

In conclusion, pregnant women shouldn't work, but bigots should have free reign. Nice to see where you net out.

He wasn't fired for his political OR his religious beliefs.

Stop with the persecution complex.

He was fired for opprobrium directed at thousands of his constituents who just happen to pay his salary and fund his department.

And if someone was fired because they were pro gay? Which I am sure has happened before, would everyone still support the decision?

It would be a safe assumption that more of his constituents support his opinion then are against it.

Why would someone be fired from a job for being pro gay?

What is pro gay anyway?

I'm not pro gay. I'm pro equal rights.

You really should stop making assumptions.

You are wrong again, I have no problem with the fire chief being fired, just like I am pro gay rights.

All I am questioning is the linking of employment to political beliefs that are main stream. The guy's opinion is shared by the majority of people in his area and he was fired for it.

What other main stream beliefs should you have to hide for fear of being fired?
