Jesus said that we should take care of our neighbors.
That's what charity and voluntary donations are for. Extortion via the collection of taxes (by threat of imprisonment) which benefit those who will not provide for themselves is wrong.
I wish they didn't deduct taxes out of your paycheck and you had to mail them a check each year. I think people might wake up a little.
Yep, if W2 workers had to write a check to pay their taxes they wouldn't be so damn eager to jump on the raise taxes bandwagon. They'd be screaming! It's like the mafia.
Paying lower taxes is better than a raise. The rich know this, they also know that part of growing their wealth is to legally keep government from confiscating their money. Why do you think politicians like Obama has it in for them. Because of the poor? ba ha ha ha!. The W2 worker, will never get it especially when they believe "politicians" who tell them that raising taxes is the answer. The rich didn't get rich believing that nonsense.
Why do you give Paul's opinion more weight than the word of god?
Jesus is not God.
Quote:
Have you nothing to say about Paul stating that they had a right to free food? You keep ignoring that part.
The fact that Paul says they have a right to free food but that taking that food from others burdens those others should be a HUGE clue as to exactly what Christianity entails. Do Christians give donations to benefit the needy? Yes. But as we can see from Paul's words, taking from others that which is not voluntarily offered burdens those others and should be avoided by all who are capable of providing for themselves and their dependents.
I always thought it would be nice if we taxpayers had a say in how our money is spent.
Maybe along with our tax returns there could be a separate form listing all the major programs in the federal government, such as military, welfare, education, infrastructure, etc.
I figure we would get to vote by checking off what percentage of our taxes we want to go to each program.
Make it every ten years, because there would be planning involved as far as budgets and so on.
Imagine having a 10-year budget! Imagine congress not having to go through the same old rigamarole every year!
Of course, who would know if our money would really be applied the way we would wish? Sigh
I'm sure it would be a lot more complicated than I just laid out, but I sure wish I had a say!
Would be nice if we could chose to participate in the unauthorized items or not.
The Constitution specifically DOESN'T stipulate that welfare benefits be provided to citizens (or residents, etc.) of the U.S., it only dictates provision for the general welfare of the country and the states.
Necessary and proper aka elastic clause say different. If you think welfare shouldn't be try passing an amendment and get 2/3 of both houses of congress and 3/4s of all states to agree with you.

Which law made by Congress permits slavery? Taking money from some to give to others directly harms the welfare of those from which money is taken. It forces them to labor for no compensation solely for others' benefit. That's slavery, which was supposed to have been abolished 150 years ago.
Wow. Somebody just pretends to be Christian here. No, my (un)Christian friend: Father, Son and the Holy Spirit are all GOD.
No, they are not. Jesus is not God. He was supposedly God's son. A father and son aren't the same person.
