The France violence was due to the oppression of freedom of expression since the victims and their company published some cartoon mocking Islam. The condemning of Korea's alleged hacking of Sony was in favor of freedom of expression.

What if a film maker makes a movie about the recent racial conflict in the USA and the film proposes or in favor of shipping all blacks to Africa. It's freedom of expression, right? Do you think most Americans or even the Government would suppressed this freedom of expression?

The only thing that would suppress this freedom of expression is the market. Finding the funding or an outlet for this type of film might prove difficult, but the government would have no legal standing in suppressing it. Freedom of expression grants individuals the right to NOT support a project as much as the right TO support it.

Don't you see political correctness a way of suppressing the freedom of expression?

I see political correctness as a meme from 20 years ago that few liberals talk about but conservatives have attempted to exploit for just as long in order enflame latent racists who are resentful that they can't be open racists any longer.

Dang, I hope not.

But we now have here a decades-long history of pretty much anything goes, along with various groups rating things according to their suitability for children, etc.

I imagine some of you here don't know that it was once illegal in this country to publish porn. When I was 16-17, in the mid-60s, my friends and I were reading copies of The Tropic of Cancer and Lady Chatterley's Lover that had been literally smuggled in from Europe because it was illegal to distribute them here. As in, distributors were guilty of felonies and went to jail.

(Yes, the definition of porn then was pretty silly.)

No. The government is not forcing anyone to be politically correct. Your employer might, but again, that is market based. As long as the government does not get involved, then there is no issue.

Forcing someone who doesn't believe in the deportation of black people to Africa to make a movie supporting it would be the suppression of freedom of expression.

Well, you won't find me suggesting anything like that be squelched.

The only way to preserve your own freedoms, is to preserve them for everyone - even for those who use such freedoms to be offensive.

If someone says "I think blacks are ugly" publicly, he will be demanded/pressured to have his livelihood taken away, to be harassed, etc. and there won't be any outrage that his freedom of expression is suppressed.

Don't tell me PC is not a way of suppression of freedom of expression.
