Yes I know all of the virtues of competition in business. Efficient, low cost, etc. I would like to know if people think it can get out of control? If so, do you see a current example of competition run amuck in America?

This is an interesting news feed. However, competitions can also prove to be a lot of fun. At Palo Alto High School in California, students participated in a Millard Fillmore Trivia Competition. You can read more about the competition at

Competition is what put human beings where we are today...masters of the planet, with all the good and bad that goes along with that. Competition is inescapable, despite liberal whining to the contrary. We must compete to survive, regardless of the field of play...war, food, breeding, business, it doesn't matter...you must compete to survive.

Competition is good but when they use the government to regulate so that they monopolize the market such as the telecommunication corporations or use the government to "pay" their debts such as the mortgage and financial corporations... then that isn't competition at all... and its bad for everyone... except the corporations that is...

Walmart always strives for lower prices sometimes putting their supplier out of business. That is not good competition.

When the Chinese manufacturers use anitfreeze in our food because it's cheaper than glycerin then competition has gotten out of hand.

Both of these issues are caused by lack of real competition due to government over regulation. Government regulation has priced the American worker right out of their jobs, so jobs go overseas in order to keep prices down...Wal-Mart keeps prices low by using overseas supplier...suppliers that are not subject to the same regulations that domestic suppliers are forced to work under.

It wasn't the Amerian worker's salary..it was the cost of raw goods.
The chinese switched because of lower cost. They were already providing the goods.
There was no US government regulation involved there..it was Walmart's "guaranteed low pricing".

Don't forget to put some blame on the Unions for doing in many American workers - the union demands were excessive and the unions would not make concessions - so, companies said - "see ya"

The cost of raw goods is going to be the same for the chinese as it is for America, unless it is something they produce themselves, in which case there's nothing we can do about that. But the fact remains that if government regulations didn't make it so expensive to do business here in this country, companies wouldn't go overseas.

And, btw, when one country pays their workers slave wages, it's not really free and open competition we're talking about, anyway...if a true free market, those workers would refuse to work for a company paying such wages and, instead, be able to go work for a better paying company. There has to be competition at all levels for it the free market to work.
