The whole bottom 50 percent pays nothing is a skewed stat. When you break it down into further analysis and look at certain age groups and so on it paints an entirely different picture. Of course there are millions of senior citizens that don't add anything to the tax revenue. They are living off of social security and so on. I don't know anyone making 50k a year that pays no taxes at all. That's ridiculous.
Also, the top 1 percent control most of the wealth so if they want people on to the bottom to pay more, perhaps they should do something about the income equality issue.

But, it's not ok to tax only certain people. We need everyone to get involved.
Spatula City is just stating the same old leftist talking points.
This thread has gone to H-E-L-L. The title of the thread is about the bottom 50%.... which is terribly misleading.
My original post in this thread proved it.
It's the bottom 50% that don't pay but scream someone else needs to pay more. What did you expect, people to just roll over and hand over their money? Everyone needs to pay. Otherwise government will keep taking more and more because the lower 50% will help them.
Everyone has a stake in needs and functions of government, so everyone should pay.
Obama's Abuse of the taxpayer to buy him and Democrats votes
Over the past six years, Obama and his operatives have successfully created hatred for achievers using clever marketing terms like “income inequality” and “white privilege.” Duped low-info voters believe they have too little because taxpayers have too much.
Folks, this whiny, weak, metrosexual victim mindset is pathetic, worse yet a president that encourages whiny, weak victim mindset. It's not the character of my America.
Obama believes that money can buy him love and if not real love, then at least new Democratic Party voters.
In Obama's America, hard work and independence are demonized. This is at the root of Obama's “you didn't build that” dig at small business. Obama's and the Democrats' Occupy Wall Street faux movement was nothing more than their
campaign to gin up class envy and hatred for the rich and taxpayers.

This thread is so....foolish. You know that bottom 50%? It might...just might...help them pay more into the system if the top 1% wasn't taking all the increased income decade after decade.
I don't see how anything will change when a certain subsection of the right wing refuse to acknowledge that many who receive these handouts are gainfully employed.
Elimination of the "earned income tax credit" and overly generous child tax credits (both Republican ideas) would be a good start.
