I've been saying this all along. If the Supreme Court rules in favor of gay marriage, it will provide the GOP with political cover. This is sure to bring relief to the more moderate wing who no longer needs to appeal to the far-right on this issue in primaries.

Considering about 75% of the country has same gender marriage NOW, I think you are wrong. It is a lost battle.

Yes, it would make their opposition to gay marriage a non-issue, which takes away some ammo from the Dems.

In the other hand, looking at the Dem list of potential candidates, I don't think Republicans need much help.

I would generally agree with this, however with Huckabee, Santorum and Cruz (perhaps a couple others as well) likely to make this a big issue if they run, I'm not so sure it would help. In a General, absolutely, but in a Primary I'm not so sure about that.

Gay marriage is becoming less and less an issue for conservatives, but it's one of those things where the vocal minority make it appear otherwise.

I don't think that voters will just forget the positions that candidates hold simply because SSM is made legal. This is the information age, everything they have said, and their previous positions are all on record for all to see with just a few mouse clicks.

I'm sorry OP, but I just find all this disgusting.
Gay marriage, and the tying it into politics and using it for popular vote.
And how people use people to get what THEY want.
Just as I do with Illegal immigration.

The SCOTUS ruled on abortion in 1973. That hasn't stopped anyone from opposing it, so I don't see how this would.

No, it improves Huckabee's chances, since gay marriage would become a non-issue (politically), there is no reason for him to bring it up.
