1.15 million gallons from train accidents...vs 50,000 from a pipeline leak. A difference of 23x...and the pipeline one is what actually gets a thread. No bias there. Nope. None at all. Oh, the spill the OP mentions? A bit more oil than is carried in just ONE rail road tank car.
Maybe add in the other 298 pipeline incidents from 2013 and retry that math.
Then petition to have it run through Idaho and not in Montana. That stretch of the Yellowstone is prime paddlefish habitat, one of the few I might add.
Let a pipeline bust in a potato field. No one would care about that.
Naw, that area of Montana is the plains, it is easier to build a pipeline. Idaho is too mountainous with some of the most pristine and important rivers in the west. It is sad it happened on the Yellowstone.
So? when did 'pristine habitat' come into play? The Yellowstone River is indeed pristine, and the plains are home to a diverse wildlife population, including the soon to be endangered sage grouse. This is the second pipeline spill into the Yellowstone in the past 4 years. You think we're not getting fed up with this crap?
If some folks think 'eh- no big deal', then petition to put it in your backyard, Idaho included.
The Yellowstone is "pristine"??
Especially at Glendive?
How many cities and towns are there upstream from Glendive, dumping the effluent from their waste treatment plants into the Yellowstone?
PRISTINE:
adj. adjective
Remaining in a pure state, without human alteration.
a pristine stream.
Remaining free from dirt or decay; clean.
pristine mountain snow.
Of, relating to, or typical of the earliest time or condition; primitive or original.
" This is the second pipeline spill into the Yellowstone in the past 4 years. You think we're not getting fed up with this crap?"
What you mean, WE?
How long have those two pipelines been under the river? How many leaks have there been?
Sure, Bridger Pipeline LLC could have a better safety record, but the number of oil spills is VERY small!
But, again, the news media is harping on the fact that one of the chemicals in the river, presumably from the oil spill, can cause cancer. Of course, they do NOT say how much exposure is necessary to create a cancer danger. They just say it is known to cause cancer.
